Rainforest Day - Primary Schools work - Darlington

We are asked each year to deliver curriculum enrichment days for Primary Schools. These have been on themes as diverse as Native American Indians and Survival or more traditional Forest School type work.

This week the theme was The Rainforest. Y4 classes form Heathfield PS, Darlington had already started the topic in school with their teachers. They arrived at Hardwick Park full of ideas and very excited.

Working in two groups of 15 with the help of teachers, Teaching Assistants and volunteers we were able to cover a wide range of topics, aiming to be educational but also fun and challenging. Using knives to make cooking sticks, lighting fires, building shelters, using blow-pipes to fire 'poison' darts, tracking animals, considering conservation and protecting the environment were all covered. The skinning, cooking and eating of Game is always challenging, but very informative.

The blindfold bush-tucker trial probably took the prize as the most amusing part of the days.

We had a lot of fun and hope the Y4 classes really enjoyed their days with us.
