Sport Climbing on the Costa Blanca
Students from RGS Newcastle were superb last week on Sport Climbing trip to the Costa Blanca, Spain. We stayed in Sella, a fantastic base from which to visit the excellent local crags, and a beautiful mountain village. The boys had a rota for cooking and had all put time and effort into planning their meals. The result was a culinary masterclass! Fantastic food served every night.
The climbing in Spain is superb. We visited a range of crags selected to maximize the boys climbing development. With a background in indoor climbing the team were soon making excellent progress and adapting to outdoor climbing. A solid foundation of safety checks and crag routines were established to keep everyone safe.
By the end of the week all the boys were confidently leading routes and sorting ropes at the top of pitches. Belaying was honed to a fine art, and team support and encouragement a big part of every session. We even managed to do the brilliant Via Ferrata at Villena and visit the Boreal Outlet Store to add variety and interest to our week.
The trip was a fantastic climbing experience, but so much more too
