The Sport Climbing on the Costa Blanca, Spain is superb!
When BT contacted me and asked if I would take him on an introductory week of Sport Climbing, I was delighted to help.
Cheap flights into Alicante, a meet in the airport, car hire sorted, 45 mins to The Orange House in Finestrat, drop the bags, grab some lunch, and we were climbing at Echo 1:5 by 2.00pm. 6 routes later all in glorious sunshine, and the wet and cold of Newcastle seemed a distant memory!
BT's agenda was to start slowly but progress to 'lead' climbing. For Day 2 Font d'Axia was a perfect choice. South facing, in the sun, well protected routes in the F4 / F5 range. By the end of the day we had done 8 routes, had the crag to ourselves all day and BT was leading.
The following day we 'ticked' 10 routes at Murla, a sunny south facing crag. We saw only 2 climbers all day.BT was delighted with his 5 leads! Our final day was spent at Toix Far Oeste where we again climbed 8 routes with BT leading 5. Again, we had the crag to ourselves all day and enjoyed extensive views along the coast and brilliant sunny weather.
Orange House - shower - airport - home by midnight!
3 1/2 days - 32 routes - 12 leads for BT. A fantastic trip! Thanks Brendan for your enthusiasm, energy and excellent company.
