We were approached by the Y5 class teacher (AM) from Cragside PS in Newcastle who had been doing a project with her students about the lives and times of the Native American Indians. Her request was simple...Can you do a themed Forest Schools type day for two classes of c.30 students?
We had a fantastic time! The two classes were so enthusiastic, knowledgable and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our two days with them at The Rising Sun in Wallsend.
A simple half day rotation with two groups of c. 15. Group 1 on water sourcing, wood collection, fire lighting, Bannock cooking, Game preparation, Food tasting, Navaho Tag, Cherokee Wrestling, Apache Tracking etc. Group 2 doing Journey Sticks, Head-dresses, Natural pictures, Indian Writing, Teepee's and Buffalo hide art-work Pheew! 15 mins for lunch then all swap!
Many thanks to AM for organising the day and to the other teachers, parents and helpers for their support.
