Gold Duke of Edinburgh Training

We have spent the last four days with a fantastic group of staff and students from Central High in Newcastle on a Gold DofE Training course.

We were based at Whiteburnshank Bothy in Kidland Forest, a wonderful remote setting north of Alwinton. The girls camped and then carried expedition kit on each training day. We combined navigation exercises, orienteering and long day walks to try to ensure that the Girls are suitably prepared for their Qualifying Expedition in July. Ascents of Windy Gyle (619m) and Cheviot (815m) being highlights.

We feel that they made excellent progress and will go on to be highly successful in the summer. Well done Girls, and 'Thank You' for a most enjoyable few days.
