Puig Campana (1408m), Costa Blanca, Spain

With GD arriving today at c. lunchtime I just had time, with an early start to walk to the top of Puig Campana, the iconic mountain dominating the skyline above Finestrat. Parking at Font di Moli (340m) the track climbs steadily at first through woodland following red markers until the bottom of the scree shoot (650m). At this point the walk steepens, the path deteriorates and the 'going gets tough'! It was a 'slog' to the Col at 1280m on a very warm day. The views however were superb.

A right turn, and two false summits later and I was on top of the Puig at 1408m with stunning views up and down the coast and over the surrounding mountains (Aitana, Ponoig, Bernia). 2hrs 15 mins - ahead of guidebook time by 15 mins. Time to fill-in the visitors book and then retrace my steps back to the Col.
Headed down the North side of the mountain on a zig-zag scree path through a nature reserve to the Coll de Pouet (885m) and then followed an undulating track, through stunning  scenery, past a mountain refuge for 5.7km back to Font di Moli - 4hrs 15mins (45mins ahead of guidebook time!). A stunning mountain day, and all completed before lunch.
