John Muir Award

What a fantastic end to a thoroughly enjoyable project.

In October 2015 we began working with Walker Challenge, a group of adults based at Scrogg Road. Our 'Team' have all had a tough time recently, and the idea was to use outdoor activities and experiences to improve self-esteem and confidence. Over 10 weeks we shared experiences across Northumberland as we got to grips with the John Muir Award.

We had an opportunity to EXPLORE wild places, DISCOVER more about our stunning County and CONSERVE wild places by working with The Rising Sun Country Park. Each session we took photographs, collected reminders of our day and sketched what we saw.

Local Artist Danny Gilchrist had a 'plan' as to how we could SHARE our experiences....we were all very interested to see what he would come up with.

On the 12th April his exhibition of 'our' work opened at The Holy Biscuit Gallery in Heaton. We all met for the opening and had a super evening. We were delighted that all the Walker Challenge group passed their John Muir Award and received their certificates on the night. Danny's exhibition was a real triumph. Well done Walker Challenge!
